Here, in Las Vegas, Nevada, economists expect joblessness to peak at 14.8 percent in 2010. This projection doesn't include discouraged workers who've given up the job hunt completely or part-timers seeking full-time jobs. There are no estimates of how many underemployed and discouraged residents live in the state, but research shows that including such citizens would push up unemployment by 75 percent, for an overall jobless rate of 23 percent. Nationally, when the underemployed and discouraged workers are included in calculations the jobless rate of 10.2 percent climbs to 18 percent.
Most of us who are fortunate enough to be employed, are either unhappy at our current jobs or with the amount of money we’re earning. Estimates say 6 million people in the UK are unhappy at work, and over 50% of the population in both the US and Australia are unhappy at their jobs. And, in this economy, none of us are making enough money!
I‘ve only recently been hired after being unemployed for over a year! It’s a position with one of the highest rated luxury resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. The company is wonderful to work for… but, business is very slow! So, while keeping my day job, I’d like to explore the possibility of resurrecting a project that I created in the early nineteen nineties… it was a lot of fun and has real money making potential! This project is by no means a panacea for the ills of the world. But, it could serve as an enjoyable distraction and a way to earn extra money to make ends meet. We all spend a lot of time at our jobs, hanging out or looking for a work… shouldn’t we at least have a little fun and earn some extra money in the process?
